Can anyone answer this question? I can't come up with a logical answer.

After Genghis Khan died in 1227 he was succeeded by his third son Ogedei. Ogedei became the Great Khan and the empire continued to expand. Genghis Khan's grandson Batu inherited the western territory. Genghis Khan's second son Chaghatai inherited central asia and Genghis's youngest son, Tolui inherited the original mongol homeland, Mongolia.
After the death of Ogedei there was a fued as who would be the next Great Khan. The descendent's of Tolui collaborated with Batu to purge the Ogedei and Chaghatai families. The descendent's of Tolui seized the throne and Mongke became Great Khan. Mongke died on campaign in 1259 and there were three surviving Toluid brothers. A civil war broke out between two of the brothers who wanted the throne. Qubliai was the victorious brother and had a successful reign from 1264 to 1294. Qubliai was able to complete the Mongol occupation of China.
So after the death of Genghis Khan, the mongols faced some internal strife and civil war but the Mongol empire continued to expand into one of the largest empires in world history .
